We can now provide a test for the long hair gene in dogs

We can now test for the gene which causes long hair in various breeds including the Chihuahua, Chow Chow, Dachshund, Dalmatian, German Shepherd Dog, Cardigan & Pembroke Welsh Corgi, St Bernard, Saluki, Weimaraner.

Since long hair is recessive to short hair, dogs can carry the long hair gene yet have short hair themselves. This test will identify these short-haired dogs which carry the gene for long hair. These carriers can produce offspring with long hair when mated with other carriers.

This test is particularly useful for breeders who want to actively avoid or promote the breeding of long-haired pups.
